The Red Dot Design Award is one of the most respected and competitive design accolades in the world.

Every year, designers and companies from more than 70 countries submit their most innovative products for consideration. The entries are carefully reviewed by an independent panel of internationally renowned design experts who assess each submission on criteria such as functionality, innovation, ergonomics, and aesthetic quality.

Winning a Red Dot is a globally recognized mark of excellence, offering laureates international visibility and the chance to showcase their work in exhibitions around the world.

Novy Undercover

This year’s award-winning product, Novy Undercover, captures all of qualities mentioned above. Designed to meet the evolving needs of high-end kitchen design, Novy Undercover is an induction hob that completely disappears into the kitchen surface when not in use.

In an age where kitchens are being shaped by interior architects rather than traditional builders, the demand for sleek, integrated solutions has never been higher. Novy set out to address this shift by creating a product that blends effortlessly into its environment while offering best-in-class performance.

But creating a hob that is invisible, yet powerful, presented unique challenges. How would users understand how to interact with a product they can’t see? What would the ideal user experience look like? And how could we ensure it remained safe and intuitive?

These were the questions we set out to answer together. We approached this challenge with a user-centric mindset. We conducted extensive research to understand real-life use cases and pain points, then translated those insights into prototypes. Each iteration brought us closer to a design that felt natural, safe, and satisfying to use.

The result is more than just a hob. Novy Undercover is a seamless kitchen experience that balances form and function without compromise.

Equipped with a flexible induction system and a refined remote controller, it offers users precise control while maintaining a clean, unobtrusive look. The user interface was carefully designed based on direct feedback and usability testing, ensuring it feels intuitive and empowering.
